Satomi Kawada - A quietly colorful story told through the flowers

Colours like a bouquet of flowers
Satomi Kawata's "Hanazumi" is a Kutani ware technique in which flowers are densely packed together and outlined with gold paint, giving the piece a gorgeous, three-dimensional look. By using Western-style paints, she achieves soft colors, and her works, which harmonize the lightness of watercolors with the sparkle of gold, are sure to captivate many.
The thoughts put into each and every piece
Kawada's works take an astonishing amount of time to complete. This is not just because of the precision, but also because he pours his heart into each and every flower and motif.
What made the biggest impression on me was the "Wisteria and Swallow Message Card," the first piece he created with KASHIKO . It features wisteria flowers on both the front and back, but the colors of the flowers on the back have been intentionally muted. When I asked why, he told me that he used the colors of the flowers to represent the progression of a baby swallow's growth. I was deeply impressed by his delicate and rich sensibility, which allowed him to layer the "time of life" into his work.
A gaze that paints flowers
Kawada doesn't just paint flowers as beautiful patterns, she carefully observes their structure and the rhythm of life. She depicts the light and shadow of each petal, giving viewers a sense of the passage of time and the breath of the seasons. This is why her works leave such a deep impression on the hearts of those who see them.
Resonating with KASHIKO
KASHIKO 's philosophy, "Tranquility and beauty in everyday life," resonates deeply with Kawada's creative approach. The rich colors of the small vessels and cards are there to gently soothe the soul in everyday life.
