This is a 70cm-sized furoshiki. Fushimi dolls have been produced since the late Momoyama period and are now made in a single workshop in Fushimi, Kyoto. These charming dolls, featuring a wide variety of deities, monsters, Inari shrines, and cats, have long been beloved as tangible manifestations of Japanese spirituality. The "Kyoto Toy Collection" features dolls, each with a different meaning. The envelopes feature hemp leaves, representing wishes for a child's growth, making them the perfect design for sending a message to a loved one. In a 110-year-old wooden gassho-style factory in Kyoto, artisans continue to meticulously dye each furoshiki by hand using traditional techniques.
