This is a 70cm-sized furoshiki. During the Heian period, "tsugigami" was popular among aristocrats for writing songs and stories. Tsugigami, made by freely tearing and pasting together pieces of washi paper of various colors and patterns, was later turned into patterns and became popular. This modern design combines the "tsugigami pattern," a symbol of elegance, with the fragrant blooming plum, a symbol of vitality and prosperity, to represent the layering of wishes, one by one, for a good relationship and a happy life. In a wooden gassho-style factory in Kyoto that has been in business for 110 years, craftsmen continue to dye furoshiki one by one carefully using traditional techniques of hand-dyeing each piece.
